X-ray satellite telescope simulations

When designing space based telescopes for X-ray astronomy - it is vital that the telescope performabce under ideal and non-ideal conditions is thouroughly understood, as obviously mistakes cannot be remedied once the telescope has been launched.
In this project you will work on developing telescope simulations and learn to understand the workings of the optics under various conditions.
Examples include:* the European Space Agency X-ray telescope mission ATHENA (http://www.the-athena-x-ray-observatory.eu), which will have a new type of optical setup based on a large number of blocks of Silicon Pore Optics modules.
* The proposed NASA mission HEX-P - a high energy telescope.* The proposed mission Arcus, which will include gratings as an optical element.

As part of the design and validation process DTU Space and DTU Physics have teamed up - and are performing simulations of the telescopes, both in parts and as a complete optical setup. Students participating will develop tools to investigate many of the aspects of the telescopes.
