GAME Denmark

Abroad (other)

GAME Denmark’s International Department is looking for 6-8 for our overseas departments in Ghana, Jordan, Somaliland, Malta, Lithuania and Tunisia

ABOUT GAME
GAME is a non-profit street sport organization that since 2002 has been working to create lasting social change by establishing innovative facilities and educating young people as leaders and role models in street sports. At GAME Headquarters in Copenhagen we work closely with different institutions and municipalities around the country to help make street sport as accessible to as many children and young people as possible. We organize street sports events with schools and arrange larger “street days” publicly in order to introduce street sports such as parkour, street basketball, street soccer and street dance.

Though GAME started internationally with the establishment of GAME Lebanon in 2007, 2018 was a year of great growth and expansion with new programs getting established in Somaliland, Jordan, Ghana, Greece, Italy, Lithuania and Malta. In 2020 GAME has begun programs in Tunisia, and other locations are under consideration.

INTERNSHIP PERIOD:
Starts in August 2020. Internship begins with approximately 1 week in Copenhagen at GAME Headquarters and the Internship continues with 4-6 months in Amman, Hargeisa, Accra, Valletta, Kaunas or Tunis.

Currently, GAME is beginning the registration process in Jordan, Tunisia and Malta where an internship will also require being part of organizational change and include the learnings that come with that. The internship will work directly with GAME’s partners in Ghana, Somaliland Jordan, Tunisia, Lithuania and Malta, as well as their extensive national networks as well, including in many countries engaging and cooperating with various agencies of the United Nations, host governments, donor governments, and many local and international NGOS and communities.

COUNTRY and LIVING CONTEXTS:
Amman is a safe city in terms of crime and any extremist external threat despite being in a volatile region. It is an expensive city (75% of Denmark). Housing would not be provided. Amman is an expat regional hub and has everything an expat would ever expect.

Accra is also a safe city; however petty crime does exist. It is medium-priced. Housing may be provided with other international volunteers at DUNK’s housing facilities (this depends on timing). Accra is an expat hub for West Africa and has everything a Westerner would desire except for snow.

Hargeisa is also a safe city despite its connotation to Somalia (it is a different country). It is not an expensive city. There are expats who live here and there are many facilities which are met including supermarkets (however, only one pool in the city, minimal gyms, limited cosmopolitan restaurants, no inter-continental flights, and no international recognition.)

Valletta, and the capital region, is a small but crowded city. Sunny, safe, and frequented by tourists, the prices approach those of Copenhagen. Housing would not be provided.

Kaunas is the second city (and proud former capital) of Lithuania. It is safe, small, quaint, rich in culture and youth, and inexpensive. Housing would not be provided. Frequent travel would be made between Kaunas and the capital Vilnius, approximately one hour away.

Tunis, and Greater Tunis, is a city with very different levels of comfort, access, and prices. Many areas are safe, and some are completely off limits. It is undergoing a dynamic civil society resurgence with a lot of energy amongst the youth 18-30, and prices there are affordable and you can live a medium-upper standard than most students there.

WORKING HOURS PER WEEK
The working hours are 37 hours per week. Some work will take place on weekends during events and training seminars for the volunteers. These hours will be counterbalanced by time off in the following week. The Intern is entitled to 2,08 vacation days per working month. The vacation should be arranged and held in a manner where it takes GAME’s daily operations and the interest of the Intern into consideration.

FINANCIAL COMPENSATION
The internship is unpaid. GAME will pay for insurance and expenses for language lessons in Amman and Hargeisa. The intern will have to finance all other costs, including airfare, local transportation, accommodation, food, etc. The local organization is prepared to help the intern find suitable housing.
