We offer:

Traineeship of up to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Iceland, starting in July 2024.

  • Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI):

The Political, Press & Information Section's main tasks are to facilitate the development of political and economic relations between the EU and Iceland and to inform the general public and other specific audiences about various EU related matters.

Main tasks:

  • Tasks related to the political affairs, press and information functions of the Section
  • Support analysis and reporting of significant political developments in Iceland, including in the areas of domestic politics and foreign and security policies
  • Conduct research on political, press and information aspects and assist in the drafting of briefings.
  • Assist with informing Icelandic target groups (general public, relevant authorities, academia, civil society, etc.) on EU-Iceland relations
  • Assist with the management of the Delegation's social media (web-site, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Support to the organisational and logistical aspects of the Delegation’s public diplomacy activities
  • Translation of articles, academic input, etc. from Icelandic to English (and vice-versa)
  • Attending and reporting on relevant conferences, seminars, etc.
  • In addition, specific project(s) may be pursued during the traineeship, subject to the terms and conditions of the traineeship

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Having at least a Bachelor Diploma in relevant disciplines (International Affairs, European Affairs, Political Science, Journalism, Law, etc.)
  • A good knowledge of spoken and written Icelandic would be a strong asset

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
