Background
The National high-Throughput DNA Sequencing Centre is located at the City Campus in central Copenhagen. The Sequencing Centre is embedded in the Lundbeck Foundation Centre for GeoGenetics (LFCGG), headed by Professor Eske Willerslev, which has been a world leading research group in ancient genomics for the last 10 years. The Sequencing Centre provide high-throughput sequencing services (MiSeq, HiSeq, NovaSeq) and is an integral part of the ancient DNA (aDNA) research of the LFCGG and other.

The LFCGG at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Biology is recruiting two research laboratory technicians for 5 years from 1 April 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The positions
The LFCGG offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. We are employing 2 qualified, highly motivated and committed full-time research laboratory technicians at the LFCGG.

The position is divided evenly between running Illumina sequencing instruments including QC and preparation in Sequencing Centre (50%), and preparation of samples and sequencing libraries in our dedicated ancient DNA clean laboratory facility (50%). The work is conducted in close collaboration with the staff in the Sequencing Centre and other scientific staff members at LFCGG.

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

In The National high-throughput Sequencing Centre

  • Sequencing of DNA libraries on Illumina platforms.
  • Quality control, qPCR of sequencing libraries.
  • Handling of sequencing orders.
  • Participation in the daily operation of the general lab facility.
  • Follow the technological development.

In the LFCGG aDNA clean laboratory facility

  • Preparation of ancient samples for DNA analysis.
  • Participation in extraction of ancient DNA and library prep using manual and automated procedures.
  • Participation in the daily operation of the aDNA clean laboratory facility.
  • Ad hoc participation in the scientific activities and meetings of the group.

Qualifications

  • Relevant educational background.
  • Documented hands-on experience with molecular biology, preferably within forensics, aDNA or other challenging field.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing and qPCR.
  • Experience with ancient DNA lab work, robotics and automization.
  • An independent, rational and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and (optionally) Danish.

Salary and Terms of employment
Terms of employment and payment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Organizations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT officers in the state. This position will be placed in salary group 4, wherein the salary at full time amounts DKK 28,295.83 plus pension contribution and the possibility to negotiate further supplement.
