PhD position in Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Ph.d. & forskning
Storkøbenhavn

Frist 24. februar 2019

The Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy Section of DTU Physics invites highly talented candidates, who have obtained outstanding results during their MSc studies and who have demonstrated excellence and potential in their field of study, to apply for a PhD scholarship. The starting date will be as early as possible.

Responsibilities and tasks
The subject of the PhD project is fast-ion diagnostics using integrated data analysis of the available neutron and gamma-ray detectors at JET to support the upcoming deuterium-tritium campaign that will produce burning plasmas. The integrated data analysis will be done using 2D and 3D tomography techniques in velocity space and phase space developed at DTU and UC Irvine. The PhD student will work on theoretical aspects of the methods, their implementation, and use the methods to analyze experimental data. A major part of the project will be to prepare, participate in and analyze measurements at JET or, if beneficial for the project, other tokamaks. The successful candidate will therefore be expected to travel to the relevant tokamak facilities for several months.
