Storkøbenhavn

The Department of Management, Society, and Communication (MSC) at Copenhagen Business School invites applications for up to four Ph.D. positions.

MSC carries out multidisciplinary research on the relationship between business and society. Its faculty explore the conditions and practices of responsible management, organisation and governance in a globalising world, sharing a particular concern with culture, communication and context as lenses to understand the interaction and interdependencies of business and society. MSC’s contribution to the study of responsible business and governance is organised around various research environments. Further information is available here: https://www.cbs.dk/en/research/departments-and-centres/department-of-management-society-and-communication/research/research-environments.

Applicants are required to develop a well-specified research proposal, which should relate to one or more of the following thematic areas:

  • The responsibility of business, management, and leadership
  • The challenges of sustainable development and their implications for management, organisation, and governance
  • The politics of inequality and diversity in organisations and society
  • The nexus between culture, creativity, and markets in times of globalisation
  • The interplay and dynamics of communication and organisation

We invite interested candidates from different disciplinary backgrounds in the human and social sciences, such as: management and organisation studies, media and communication studies, culture studies, development studies, political science, sociology, anthropology, or geography.

The three-year PhD program at CBS allows you to conduct research under the supervision of CBS professors, supported by research training courses. The program is highly international, and you are expected to participate in international research conferences and to spend time abroad as a visiting PhD student. See the CBS homepage for more information about the PhD program, http://www.cbs.dk/en/research/phd-programmes.

It is also required that the applicant shows an interest in joining the Department’s research environment. CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in government and business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded.

Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programs. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).

The planned starting date for the positions is on 1 September 2019 but may be agreed upon individually.

Successful applications are solely selected based on the excellence and relevance of the proposals submitted and the qualifications and potential of the applicants.

A committee of experts in the field in question will assess the applications.
