Research Position (Assistant Professor level in research) in Type 1 Diabetes Biology at the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen

This is an opportunity to join the Type 1 Diabetes Biology research group at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) and NNF Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen for a shared three year track assistant professor position in basic diabetes research.

SDCC is the largest diabetes center in Denmark and is organized in four units: Clinic, Clinical Research, Education and Health Promotion. The Clinical Research Unit consists of six research groups with different research areas. The clinical research in this project will be carried out at the Type 1 Diabetes Biology research group, headed by Professor Flemming Pociot.

The CBMR was established in 2010 to conduct fundamental research on metabolism and is organized in four programs. At CBMR the research will be carried out in collaboration with Professor Torben Hansen, heading the Human Genomics and Metagenomics in Metabolism Program.

The Position
The common focus of Type 1 Diabetes Biology and CBMR is on deciphering molecular mechanisms that contribute to the development of diabetes with specific emphasis on the beta cell. This includes, but is not limited to, studies of human pancreatic islets, genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, microbiota and bioinformatics.

The Assitant Professor will take a strong lead in the project design and management as well as data generation, analyses and interpretation, and collaborate with other team members as well as other research groups nationally and internationally.

The place of employment is at SDCC in Gentofte. Your daily work will be carried out both at SDCC Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and at NNF Center for Basic Metabolic Research, University of Copenhagen. Our research facilities include modern laboratories.

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

A strong background in molecular biology, computational biology, and statistics as well as experience in high-throughput genomic data analysis, extensive scripting and programming knowledge, data integration and regulatory network analysis is required. Prior knowledge and research experience in Type 1 diabetes is an asset. Any previous records of independent research as well as productive interactions within a multi-disciplinary team environment constitute an advantage.

Essential experience and skills:

  • PhD degree in molecular medicine or similar
  • Minimum 3-4 years of postdoc experience in a research environment with a focus on transcriptomics, gene regulation and bioinformatics
  • Experience in analyzing and evaluating data from large-scale RNA and DNA sequencing and associated applications
  • Experience working in Linux/UNIX environment and with shell scripting
  • Experience with analyzing data in R
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
