Aarhus University Hospital is inviting for applications for a 3-year research PhD position within experimental radiobiology and enrollment in the PhD program at Aarhus University in Denmark. The position is full time.

Job description
The research project for the position falls within the topic of radiobiology for proton therapy, and will be supervised by Associate Professor Brita Singers Sørensen.
The project is funded by The Danish Cancer Society, and concerns investigations of the differential biological effects of proton irradiation compared to conventional photon radiation. The difference in biologic effect, the RBE, will be analyzed in different biological models. This involves both in vivo and in vitro analyses, with emphasis on mouse models of normal tissue effects. The project requires a large portion of practical skills and pioneer spirit, as the experimental basis is in its build up. The projects is based on The Department of Experimental Clinical Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital, with a major part of the experimental work to be carried out at the Danish Centre for Particle Therapy (DCPT). The project aims to contribute to knowledge that can translate to patients to be treated with proton therapy at DCPT.

The applicant must have

  • Master degree in biology, engineering, molecular biology or physics
  • fluency in English (oral and written)
  • analytical skills and ability to work independently on a project basis
  • research interests and ambitions for excellence in radiobiology
  • prior experience with experimental animals will be an advantage
  • laboratory animal science course is a prerequisite. Can be obtained after start

The PhD program includes PhD courses (in total app. ½ year), writing scientific articles and the PhD thesis, teaching and disseminating your research, active participation in scientific meetings etc. Further details on the PhD program can be found here:

About Department of Experimental Clinical Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital
The Department Experimental Clinical Oncology is the research department of the Department of Oncology at Aarhus University Hospital. A major focus is the radiobiological basic of radiotherapy. The Department of Experimental Clinical Oncology will be running the biology research at DCPT.
The department has a well-established and highly international research environment, with research activities in radiation oncology bridging translational and clinical research. Aarhus University has a PhD program in clinical medicine at Faculty of Health.

Applications must contain the applicant’s CV, a motivated application letter, list of publications, diploma and transcripts of records (grades etc.), and at least one letter of support or 1-3 professional references.

Closing date for applications is April 1st 2019, for start as soon as possible thereafter.

Please note that the selected candidate will have to apply for and get approved for enrollment at the AU Graduate School of Health in a separate procedure. For the chosen applicant, first application deadline opportunity is May 13th 2019.
