The Research Unit of Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO) and the Research Laboratory for Molecular Endocrinology (KMEB) at the Department of Endocrinology M, Odense University Hospital and at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invite applications for a 5-year position as associate professor to be filled from August 1, 2019.

The current research lines of the research units are to study the interaction between obesity, type 2 diabetes and the biology of skeletal (stromal or mesenchymal stem cells) (MSC) as well as the role of bone marrow adipocytes in regulating bone homeostasis and whole body energy metabolism. The units are also studying metabolic abnormalities of patients with metabolic diseases e.g. osteoporosis, obesity, type 2 diabetes.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop own research direction and to develop into an independent investigator within the research units and to demonstrate ability to attract external funding in order to support own research projects. Research tasks:

The applicant will be expected to develop research projects within the frame of the research activities of the units and to collaborate with other scientists and clinicians working in the clinical departments.

Research supervision: The applicant will be expected to perform supervision functions for graduate students, PhD students and junior post-doctoral scientists.

Teaching tasks:

The Department of Endocrinology and SDCO provides undergraduate teaching to medical, biomedical, and pharmacy students and post-graduate teaching to junior physicians and PhD students. The applicant will take part in these teaching activities. Expectations of qualifications:

The successful candidate will be expected to have

• a medical, biomedical or molecular background with a PhD relevant to the above-mentioned research in metabolism, stem cells and adipocyte biology.
• research experience documented by publications in international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of metabolism, stem cells, adipocyte biology
• a documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills
• a documented record of ability to obtain external funding

• a research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.
