IFRO carries out pure basic and applied social science research and have a number of educational and public sector advisory service responsibilities within our thematic fields. In particular, IFRO performs research within the disciplines of economics, sociology and ethics, but we are characterized by a high involvement in interdisciplinary research at both international and national levels.

The PhD scholarship is part of the Food and Health education and research programme within the Sino-Danish Center (SDC), which is a partnership between universities in Denmark and China. The selected candidate will be employed with economic and social science research in relation to trans-national food supply chains with combinations of Danish/European and Chinese enterprises comprising primary production, manufacturing, trade, retail and food service, with the overall aim to develop the understanding of these business relationships and how food quality and safety management is undertaken in these different models of Danish-Chinese

collaboration.

Specific aims are

  • to investigate similarities and differences in food supply chain management practices in Denmark/Europe and in China
  • to identify critical determinants for Danish food companies’ export success to the Chinese market
  • to investigate opportunities and barriers for export of Chinese food products to the Danish/European market

The cross-cultural aims of the PhD will be facilitated via The SinoDanish Center (SDC) Food and Health Research Theme (http://sdc.university/research/research-areas/food-and-health/). This collaboration has been developed between Danish universities and University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) to meet Danish and Chinese food market challenges via stakeholder chain driven research based collaborations to strengthen Denmark and China’s position in the food market.
