iCourts, the Centre of Excellence for International Courts has a vacancy for a temporary part-time and a permanent full-time Data Expert.

About the Centre:
iCourts (the Danish National Research Foundation's Centre of Excellence for International Courts), opened in March 2012 as a centre of excellence funded by a large grant from the Danish National Research Foundation. Furthermore, it receives substantial support from the Sapere Aude programme of the Danish Research Council. The centre's research efforts aim at creating groundbreaking results within the field of inquiry through a series of closely integrated interdisciplinary research projects.

Job description:
The day-to-day data processing tasks at iCourts, consist of a combination of data collection from websites of various international court and information extraction from their decisions, in order to store the extracted data into databases. We then make the data available on the web through a web content management system and process stored data according to the individual needs of our researchers, in order to e.g. create citation networks of cases, visualise legal actors etc.

You will be part of a growing international environment, with researchers from six continents and an influx of visiting researchers, that also hosts a small team of Data Experts. Your tasks will be to:

  • Process data and metadata from the international courts that belong to the iCourts’ research agenda and load them into existing databases
  • Build new and update existing databases
  • Normalise and clean data
  • Construct charts and data representations from ad-hoc data requests
  • Cooperate with iCourts’ researchers to assist them with the needs for collecting, processing and representing data

Required qualifications:
We expect you to:

  • have a recent BSc/MSc in either Software Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics or related programs.
  • have experience with collecting and processing data through either your studies or previous work positions.
  • be fluent in one of Python, C#. Excellent knowledge of other languages,
  • be familiar with JSON, XML, MySQL, Git, regular expressions.
  • be autonomous, driven, interested in responding to technical challenges and take responsibility for your own work
  • be apt to learning new technologies
  • have good communications skills in English to ensure the best opportunity to settle successfully into iCourt’s work routines

Experience with Statistics, Natural Language Processing or Web Scraping is considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite.

Salary and terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikernes Centralorganisation, AC), with salary grading as an academic officer. A supplement can be negotiated, depending on experience and qualifications.

Working hours are 37 hours per week including lunch for the permanent position and 8 hours per week for the temporary position.

The employment for temporary position will be from 1 September 2019 to 31 December 2019, and that start date for the permanent, full-time position is 1 August 2019.
