We are looking for interns who want to work with volunteer coordination, campaign work, event management and communications while helping run and develop a vibrant non-profit café and event space which serves as a focal point for the political environment of Aarhus!
We are looking for interns who want to work with volunteer coordination, campaign work, finance and communications while helping run and develop a vibrant non-profit café which serves as a focal point for the political environment of Aarhus!
You become part of a volunteer-driven organization which fights inequality both in Denmark and internationally. We are currently donating our profits to activists in Uganda.
As a part of the tight-knit Aarhus team, you will become part of an organization with 100 volunteers who do everything from running a café to campaigning – all with the aim of contributing to our overall political goal of fighting inequality. We want you to have the best and most productive internship possible, so you can choose whether you would like to focus on HR, communications, campaigning and marketing depending on your interests. Alongside this self-chosen focus, you are expected to assist in, coordinate and facilitate the daily operations of our café and event space together with our dedicated volunteers.
Our café and shared office space is a new social enterprise in town and Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke Aarhus is growing at a fast pace, so there is a lot of room for you to have influence on our activities and organization.
Learning, responsibility and tasks during your internship:
We have a wide range of tasks to be taken care of - these include anything from communications and campaigning to finance.
As an applicant, please choose the areas of work that you would like to work with and highlight these in the application

1. Café, volunteer and event coordination:
- Working closely together with our volunteer groups and helping them with their activities
- Recruiting and organizing volunteers
- Organizing and executing political, cultural and/or other event
2. Digital Communication and Marketing:
You will get the opportunity to help produce, update and develop our online channels (especially social media). Your tasks will include:
- Improve Café MellemFolk and MS Aarhus’ online presence
- Spread the message about our political work, our campaigns, events and the things we sell in our café.
- Develop innovative ways of interacting with our guests through online channels and our facilities
- Oversee MS Aarhus’ social media and online portals together with the volunteers.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies regarding our café products and our organization
- Graphics design tasks
3. Campaign:
- Help MS Aarhus spread our political message through different forms of campaign work and activism in close collaboration with our campaign group.
- Develop partnerships with other local, like-minded organizations, grassroots movements and entrepreneurs.
- Areas of campaign include but are not limited to anti-discrimination, climate justice, refugee rights and inequality
4. Accounting and Finance:
- Weekly cash count of the café’s profit
- Accounting of expenses
- Different budget tasks
- Assisting in overseeing (and potentially improving) the financial performance of the café
5. Innovation and development of new projects:
- Our activities are constantly changing and you can be part of the process of developing, fundraising and working with new projects and events.
If you have other interests and/or ideas, these can also be included as tasks during your internship. We are always open for new ideas and skills!
Qualifications
You are studying a relevant education (for example anthropology, international studies, political science, communication, business or finance). It is a plus if you:
- Have experience with organizing and coordinating events
- Have experience with working with volunteers - and know how to motivate them
- Are a team player and like to work together with other people
- Have the drive to be part of a social business, and help create proceeds that go to the fight against poverty

- An unpaid internship with 30-37 working hours per week;
- Partaking in the café with approx 4 shifts a month to get to know the work that most of our volunteers do.
