About the department
The Alternative Delivery Technology department consists of a multidisciplinary team devoted to the agile exploration and assessment of early research projects. These projects are focused on the delivery of peptides, proteins, and other large molecules via routes alternate to subcutaneous injections and the devices that facilitate such delivery. To best ensure a quality and comprehensive analysis of the field, the department works closely with formulation scientists and pharmacology researchers from other departments as well as external partners from both industry and academia. Specific delivery technologies explored in the department include implants and oral devices. An example of an oral device concept developed in collaboration with the Langer Lab at MIT was the focus of a recent paper in Science (

The team boasts a diverse set of expertise and experiences by bringing together professionals from a number of domestic and international backgrounds with training in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, nano-scale fabrication, chemistry, physics, drug formulation, and more. With this at our disposal we hope to usher in a new fleet of drug delivery options to benefit patients in a number of therapeutic areas.
