Postdoc in Transportation Modelling

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Frist 2. juni 2020

The transport division is one of the leading university groups in Europe in the field of transport research, and offers a strong interdisciplinary environment in the field of transport research. We have close collaboration with other research communities nationally and internationally and with Danish Authorities, including a large on-going contract with the ministry of transport, where we carry out policy support to solve the great challenges in the transport sector, particularly related to congestion, environment and safety. Members of the group have been – or are currently - members of several high-level government commissions in the field. The division is responsible for DTU’s M.Sc. study in Transport and Logistics.

The Network Modelling group within the division is looking for a candidate for a 2-year PostDoc position in transportation modelling, in particular with focus to application to bicycle and route choice modelling.

Responsibilities and tasks
As a PostDoc you will be one of our experts within the field of transport modelling and will contribute to solving the tasks performed by the group. The position is funded by two currently ongoing research projects, and contributing to each of these will be your main tasks. In particular, the responsibilities and tasks relate to:

  • Developing new approaches for route choice modelling based on Generalised Entropy Models. This will include the formulation of novel theory and models, in collaboration with colleagues within the research group as well as researchers from other research institutions. Furthermore, you will contribute to the development, implementation and validation of corresponding solution methods, as well as perform large-scale application and calibration, e.g. by using large-scale datasets of vehicle trajectories
  • Various aspects related to modelling of bicycle networks and route choice preferences of bicyclists. This involves, among other, network processing, analysis of large-scale datasets collected by the project as well as estimating and applying route choice models. The project is international, and thus include close collaboration with partners from foreign top universities.

The tasks will thus be both theoretical and empirical in nature. As part of and in addition to these specific tasks related to the two research projects that is funding the position, we expect you to:

  • Conduct excellent research in the research area and publish articles in international high-level journals
  • Build/further develop a strong and academically visible research profile within the research area, including conference participation and visits to other leading universities
  • Participate in projects and collaborations related to research-based public sector consultancy.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. We have high academic ambitions and expectations, and expect you to already have build some experience within the field, including a PhD degree and WoS publications in the field. Furthermore, you should preferably:

  • Have gained academic experience in route choice and bicycle modelling, including both methodological contributions and applied research particularly focussing on large-scale applications
  • Have ambition to assume responsibility for both small and large projects as part of your career
  • Are good at disseminating knowledge, both orally and in writing
  • Appreciate a close dialogue with your colleagues and collaboration partners about the task to solve, but you can also work independently when necessary.
