The Danish National Symphony Orchestra invites applications for audition to following position: Tutti Violin in the 1st violin section

The Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Fabio Luisi invites applications for audition to the following position:

Tutti Violin (the 1st violin section)

A permanent - and fulltime position with a one-year trial period.

The orchestra is one of the world’s oldest broadcasting symphony orchestras and is part of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation - a leading cultural generator, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The corporation includes 5 ensembles – a symphony orchestra, choirs and a big band and as such is an important ambassador for Danish music and culture abroad.

The Danish Symphony Orchestra continuously collaborates with the world's leading soloists and conductors. Besides the prestigious series of titular conductors, internationally acclaimed conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Vasily Petrenko, Lorenzo Viotti and Juanjo Mena have conducted and praised the orchestra. Maestro Herbert Blomstedt and Thomas Dausgaard are both appointed Conductors’ Laureate of the orchestra. Maestro Fabio Luisi was appointed Chief Conductor in 2017.

The DR concert hall is designed by French architect Jean Nouvel with acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota and has been rated one of the world’s best concert halls by ‘Gramophone’. Most of the orchestra’s concerts are broadcast on Danish Radio and to large regions of the world through the European Broadcasting Union.

The audition will take place on:

Saturday August 29, 2020 from 10:00 AM (pre round)

Sunday August 30, 2020 from 10:00 AM (1st & 2nd round)

At the audition we would like to hear:

Pre- & 1st round

Mozart: From Violin Concerto No. 3, 4 or 5: 1st movement without cadenza

-Orchestral excerpts

2nd round

Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius or Carl Nielsen: From Violin Concertos: 1st movement with cadenza

J.S. Bach: Sarabanda from Partita no 2, d-minor

-Orchestral excerpts

(All excerpts will be sent by email before the audition)

Working in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and in Denmark

The working schedule is based on 24 hours a week plus 15 hours individual preparation based on 42 weeks pr year. Normally rehearsals are held Monday till Friday with concerts twice a week. Domestic and international touring is also a contractual obligation.

The orchestra is located at DR Byen in a smoke-free indoor environment, with good practice – and work facilities and a subway station close by.

Annual salary: 393800-459400 DKK. Further to the salary is a 19 % pension and an extensive public health care system as well as instrument insurance

Employment is subject to confirmation of residence and work permit in Denmark.

The Danish welfare society is characterized by high quality of life and a well-functioning work-life balance.
