Project Support Intern to Harare, Zimbabwe

Are you interested in humanitarian work, are you studying and have a health or development study focus? Are you interested in living in Zimbabwe? Then this might be an opportunity for you to apply for our position as Project Support Intern to Zimbabwe in spring semester 2021.
This position will give a great opportunity to learn about project implementation and the Red Cross’s work on Health and Disaster Prevention in Zimbabwe. The Danish Red Cross office at Zimbabwe Red Cross Society in Harare is currently looking for an intern to provide support to ongoing project implementation in Zimbabwe. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience within the humanitarian sector and get a broad insight into various technical fields of development work.

The intern will be supporting various Health aspects of the operations including Sexual Reproductive health, Non-communicable diseases and Gender Based Violence, but possibly also be engaged with Forecast based Action, modeling on drought forecasts, climate change and humanitarian response etc. The position will furthermore assist with data information management, reporting and development of articles as well as documenting good practices and success stories.

Your tasks

  • Support project implementation of ongoing projects
  • Support new initiatives and capacity building within health-related projects
  • Support regular reporting
  • Develop communication material such as articles and case stories
  • Support the day to day activities of the Danish Red Cross office in Zimbabwe

You will be supervised and supported by the Danish Red Cross Country Manager.

Your profile
You are studying medical or public health science, social science, political science, African studies, development studies or similar. You have a big drive, are willing to learn and ready to live on the southern hemisphere in Harare. You might have experience from working with organisations involving volunteers and experience with project implementation and monitoring will be an asset. You must be fluent in English, both written and oral and able to provide an Intern contract with a university.

The DRC office in Zimbabwe consists of 3 employees, supporting Zimbabwe Red Cross Society in implementing currently a Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights project and a Forecast based Action project. Our support includes financial support, project planning & implementation, monitoring and reporting, innovation and administration.

Please notice that position is manly an office job with few visits to the field.

We offer
The positions as intern is 37 hours a week for the spring semester 2021. You will be working at our country office in Harare. We will cover your vaccinations, and accommodation in a possible shared guest apartment in Harare without charge. We do not cover the flight tickets and visa to and from your duty station, but if you will be traveling with work in country, we will cover the expense. You receive a briefing before departure at the headquarter in Denmark.

Medical Clearance
Before you can be employed in the field you need to go through a medical examination. The purpose of doing a medical examination is to ensure that you are physically and mentally fit to take on your mission. Here you can read more about what the examination contains.
