Core Responsibilities
In this role, you will execute your own project and support projects related to your area of expertise. In particular, you will:
• Scope own activities based on requirements from internal partners.
• Build link to external suppliers and/or academia to setup polymer powder manufacturing chain for own project.
• Perform or drive polymerization, compounding, and micronisation of polymers.
• Perform printing of polymers on a selective laser sintering (SLS) system.
• Perform or drive characterization of parts - especially surface appearance.
• Interpret results and build correlation between influencing factors and part performance.
• Disseminat knowledge to relevant internal partners.

We are offering an industrial PhD student position to a talented person that is passionate about chemistry and materials science. As an industrial PhD you will be working with our Additive Manufacturing project team, being part of the Materials department. This will give you a broader perspective of how Materials are applied in LEGO® products and how the company operates and develops new technologies.
The Materials department is responsible for the polymers, colours, inks, and metals used in the LEGO products. The department is an important contributor in the additive manufacturing (3D printing) program by driving the material development for these new manufacturing technologies.

Do you have what it takes?
To be able to bring product innovation to the next level, we are looking for a curious person, who has MSc within chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering or similar and who is fully capable in English, written and spoken.
Moreover, you:
• Have polymer chemistry knowledge
• Have statistical data analysis experience
• Are self driven and self organizing
• Have a hands on working style
• Have presentation and reporting skills directed to a scientific audience
The ideal candidate also has SLS process experience, micronization technology knowledge and metrology/surface roughness analysis experience, but this is not a must.
The job is based on an approval (and funding) of the project by the Innovation foundation.
