Synthesis of sustainable fuels and chemicals for a CO2 neutral future demands development of novel catalysts suitable for e.g. power-to-x applications. Atomic resolution information under conditions approaching those found in an industrial reactor i keystone to this endeavour.
High pressure TEM makes it possible to study heterogeneous catalysts during catalyst synthesis and product formation. The technique is able to probe "local" (atomic) sample properties such as crystal structure, phase purity and crystallite size while analyzing the process gas during the reaction. This offers a unique opportunity to follow the catalyst morphology and activity during operation. The High pressure TEM data will be compared to complimentary techniques such as in situ x-ray diffraction (XRD), which "probes" on a more average scale.
