Scientific Data Administrator and Visualizations Assistant
LEO Pharma A/S
One student assistant position available in Explorative Biology and Bioinformatics
Do you want to be a part of the Bioinformatics team at LEO Pharma? Then join us as a student assistant in the department of Explorative Biology and Bioinformatics! We are looking for a talented, motivated, and systematic master student who can help us organize high-throughput omics data for our analyses as well as maintain our data visualization tools.
The job
As part of your job, you will play an important role in the development of our data management and visualization platform that enables laboratory and data scientists alike to do on-the-fly data analysis and data visualizations.
In your role as a student assistant, you will look at the current state of the platform and help implement new, additional functionalities. You will be heavily involved in the decision making of what to implement next and the tools that are used to bring the platform to the next level.
The data we host in our internal database is generated via R and Python scripts. Our current platform technology stack utilizes Python (Django) for the backend and JavaScript (React) for the frontend. Do not worry if you are not super experienced with all the tools we use yet.
Your profile
We are looking for a master student with at least one year of your studies left, and an excellent understanding of English and scientific literature. The ideal candidate will have:
- Basic Bioinformatics know-how
- Familiarity with a UNIX command line
- Experience in Python/R
- Fundamental knowledge of how the web works (HTML, CSS, JS)
- Out of the box mindset that inspires novel solutions to challenges
- Fearless attitude when it comes to learning new skills and tools as you go
It will be an advantage but not a requirement if you can put a check-mark next to some of these:
- Principles of software development (DRY, KISS, Test-Driven development)
- Knowledge of transcriptomics workflows
- Experience with JavaScript and React
- Experience with designing and consuming REST APIs
- Experience with public databases used in computational biology
- Hands on knowledge with a backend web framework (great if Python, ideal if Django)
We offer an exciting and intellectually stimulating working environment, a competitive salary, and flexible working hours with an average time commitment of 10-14 hours per week.
You will join the Bioinformatics team within the Explorative Biology & Bioinformatics department. We are a group of 21 highly skilled scientists, technicians and students who all value a good sense of humor and share a passion for data and scientific discussions.
The position is open immediately. Applications including a short CV should be submitted via our application portal. Candidates that match our requirement profile will receive an invitation to participate in a take-home coding exercise to test their skills. The test will take a few hours and will have to be completed within 24 hours upon receival.
