The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the field of preclinical MRI as per 1 May 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 2-year fixed-term full-time position.
Research Environment at CFIN
CFIN is an international and strongly multidisciplinary research centre at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby near Aarhus. CFIN has a state-of-the-art neuroscience facility including a preclinical research facility which houses the preclinical MRI, lab animal surgery, stable and optical imaging labs. The MRI lab holds a Bruker Biospec 9.4T MRI with a high sensitivity cryoprobe for rodent brain. We provide access to state-of-the art experimental infrastructure, a stimulating international research environment, free Danish classes and a friendly environment with an excellent work-life balance. Aarhus is close by and surrounded by beaches, beautiful forests and other opportunities for outdoor activities. Aarhus is also a young, vibrant, costal city with world-class venues for art, dining, music and culture.
Your job responsibilities
As Assistant Professor of preclinical MRI your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Assisting researchers with small animal MRI (mice and rats) including protocol optimization, method implementation and optimization (in collaboration with the lab head), data acquisition and analysis.
  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.
  • Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.

You will report to the laboratory head, Assoc. Professor Brian Hansen.
Your competences
You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at Bachelor’s and Master's degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations.

You have a strong background in biomedical engineering or physics with an in-depth understanding of biology/neuroscience and extensive experience with in vivo preclinical MRI, perfusion MRI, MR spectroscopy (proton and X-nuclei) and related data analysis. You have proficiency with Matlab and/or Python. Experience with Bruker scanners is an advantage as well.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are friendly and helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

Terms of employment

  • Appointment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
  • Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
  • The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
  • The yearly base salary for a fulltime assistant professor with minimum 3 years of working experience after achieved MSc degree is DKK 486,969.17 or DKK 512,713.62 with minimum 4 years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
  • Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
