Are you interested in applying your skills to shape Danish Red Cross’s future work in health in humanitarian settings? Would you like to get more hands-on experience in building strategic partnerships in health? Then this is an opportunity for you.

Operating in some of the most challenging humanitarian and development contexts in 20+ countries across the world, the Danish Red Cross’ international activities aim to increase humanitarian impact, to inspire and act for human dignity, resilience and social cohesion. Improving health for the most vulnerable and hard to reach is one of the key strategic priorities and core competencies of the Danish Red Cross.

Strategic and programmatic guidance to health operations and programs is provided by a health team of technical advisors from both field and headquarters. The health team is also responsible for global health projects and partnerships with other Red Cross partners, academia and private sector.

To support the health team at the Danish Red Cross Headquarters in Copenhagen efforts, we are looking for a motivated health intern to be part of our team and help us develop a strategy for our future engagement in health. In addition, we need your help to coordinate and drive a strategic partnership with ICRC and Novo Nordisk which aims to improve Non-Communicable Disease (NCDs)care in humanitarian settings.

Your tasks
The Intern’s main tasks will include providing support to:

Development of Health Strategy;

  • Conduct research and background analysis for the Health Strategy formulation
  • Draft a report summarizing main findings and recommendation
  • Support webinars and consultation process with health matrix and other internal and external stakeholder

Coordination of a strategic partnership on NCDs with ICRC and Novo Nordisk;

  • Provide secretarial support to coordination- and steering group (some meetings may take place in Geneva and travel may be required)
  • Keep track and develop partnership assessments, milestone and risk plan etc.
  • Ensure effective communication and organisaiton of online meetings
  • Support other aspects of internal and external partnership coordination.

In addition, the intern will perform other, ad hoc tasks depending on interest and qualification


  • Student in global health, public health, sociology, disaster management, development studies or other relevant disciplines
  • Experience from NGOs or organizations working with international development work or humanitarian settings an advantage
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Personal skills: structured, self-motivated, flexible, hardworking, result-oriented, good communication/IT skills and the ability to keep cool.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

We offer
Ideally the internship will be fulltime, 37 hours per week, for 6 months starting as soon as possible. The position will be based in Copenhagen.

The position is integrated in the Danish Red Cross International Department and the intern will work in close collaboration with the health advisors in the health team. The internship is unpaid, but DRC will provide a workplace and cover all costs related to participation in meetings or travels outside Copenhagen, if required.
