Postdoc in Offshore Wind Economics and Policy

In the Section for Society, Market and Policy (SMP) at DTU Wind Energy, we are now seeking a candidate for a two-year Postdoc position to work with research projects on the economic and policy challenges related to the massive scale-up of offshore wind energy in Europe and around the world. Responsibilities and qualifications
We are currently working on several projects related to economics and policy of offshore wind, and are seeking support on related research topics, including

  • Danish energy islands and their implementation
  • International cooperation on cross-border energy infrastructure
  • Business models and financing of offshore infrastructure
  • Market arrangements for offshore hubs and meshed offshore grids
  • Auction design for offshore wind, including sea bed licensing and subsidy-free auctions
  • Future role and support policies for Power-to-X in offshore energy systems

Your work will involve micro economic and policy analysis, applicable to the electricity and gas sector, and different renewable energy technologies. You will conduct quantitative socio-economic assessments, project-based investment appraisals (cash flow analysis), develop and evaluate business models and financing options, and assess incentives from different ownership structures. You will review and evaluate regulatory and policy frameworks in the offshore area, and identify barriers to the effective implementation of best practices.

We are seeking candidates with a PhD degree, preferably in economics, with strong interest in and knowledge about the renewable energy sector. We welcome experience within regulation, auctions and/or market design.

You will be expected to take on certain project coordination tasks and organise public sector engagement activities, as well as workshops and seminars. Besides this, your tasks may also include teaching and supervising Masters students.

Our working language is English.

In addition to the above, the following further qualifications will be considered in the assessment

  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and oral presentation
  • Open-minded team player, able to work in multidisciplinary and multinational teams
  • A longer-term interest in pursuing a research career

The SMP section is part of the Wind Energy Systems Division at DTU’s Department for Wind Energy.

We work towards a sustainable and just energy system and perform multi-disciplinary social science research in the technological, economic and societal nexus of wind energy. We use qualitative and quantitative methods, empirical data, interviews, case studies, financial modelling, socio-economic and policy analysis to study wind energy project development, environmental impacts, social interactions, markets, policy, and industry processes.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
