Postdoc position in Atomic-Scale Modeling and Experiments in Electrolytes for Multivalent Batteries

The Section for Atomic Scale Modelling and Materials at DTU Energy, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is looking for outstanding candidates for a 2-year postdoc position within the field of modelling and experiments on electrolytes for multivalent batteries (e.g., Zn, Al, and Mg). The position is part of the department’s focus on batteries and the section’s core activities on accelerated discovery of battery materials and interfaces. The candidate is expected to work on two projects, one involving metal-air batteries and the other on magnesium batteries as a part of E-MAGIC project funded by the European Union through the H2020.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the simulation group to discover improved electrolytes for metal-air batteries and magnesium batteries. The successful candidate will work on the discovery of the optimal material combinations that yield a significantly improved cyclability, ionic transport and ionic elec. Main duties of the position include:

  • Design of liquid electrolytes though ab initio calculations
  • Electrochemical characterization of the electrolytes
  • Analyzing degradation processes

Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in experimental physics, chemistry, materials science or equivalent.

The core skills for the project are:

  • Experience in assembling and characterizing metal-air batteries
  • Experience in synthesizing and analyzing non-aqueous electrolytes such as ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for progress and quality of projects
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Moreover, the successful candidate is:

  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic about the research topic
  • Able to work in an organized fashion, document and disseminate scientific results such as writing results in reports and publications
  • Able to work with diverse colleagues with working on theory and experiments

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years.

The employment is to start 1 May 2021 or soon thereafter.
