Scientist to an Organic Analysis Department, R&D

Analytical Chemist with GC and GC X GC experience for Organic Analysis department

Are you intrigued by the challenges of developing new gas chromatographic methods for analysis of the chemical properties and elemental compositions of oils when the international standard methods cannot be followed? Then this is your chance to be involved in the newest development within the area of clean fuels from renewable sources.

“You can look forward to meeting new challenges every day because we constantly try to answer questions about fuels that haven’t been asked before. So, this is a great opportunity for you to learn from our profound knowledge of chemical analysis related to fuel hydroprocessing and help us add even more to it,” R&D Manager Peter Wiwel says.

Join a team of scientists at the forefront of chemical fuel analysis

You will join 4 engineers and 11 technicians in the Organic Analysis department. Here, we analyse oil, gasses and renewable fuels by request from our catalyst and process development programmes and our technical services supporting customer plants.

Because of the high complexity of the work we do, we are dependent on each other, and we constantly collaborate to succeed.

“We’re usually found huddled in professional discussions helping help each other out. You can look forward to being a part of a department with an open dialogue and a positive vibe that we all appreciate,” R&D Manager Peter Wiwel continues.

Support colleagues and customers with analyses and develop new methods

You will use your knowledge of GC and GC X GC and other techniques to analyse composition and specific critical components of non-renewable and renewable fuels – with an increased focus on renewable fuels as we work towards becoming the global leader in carbon emission reduction technologies by 2024.

Depending on the techniques used for the analysis, you will either forward the request to our team of highly skilled technicians or – in the method development phase – conduct the analysis yourself. Often, you will be unable to use the international standard procedures, which means that you will have to develop your own processes for analysis.

Moreover, some of your main tasks will be to:

  • When relevant forward requests for analysis to our dedicated team of laboratory technicians and in turn support them when needed
  • Analyse oils from renewable and non-renewable sources and develop new methods for analysis
  • Provide chemical analytical advice and expertise to colleagues in the sales organisation and other departments
  • Support customers in relation to our own developed or recommended methods
  • Maintain instruments and equipment and request technical assistance if there is an issue that we cannot fix ourselves.

You have experience with oil analysis, GC and GC X GC
Your curiosity will guide you as you perform the analyses, and you are enthusiastic about doing the detective work of finding or developing the right analytical method for the job. This also means that you have a critical approach to your work, and you enjoy challenging yourself along the way.

Like us, you appreciate working in an environment where collaboration is essential. Also, you are good at communicating in a way that makes highly complex analytical chemistry understandable to people with other professional backgrounds.

Professionally, we imagine that you:

  • Have a master’s degree or a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field
  • Have some experience with GC and GC X GC and with analysis of oils and other organic liquids/gasses
  • Have some experience from the refinery industry or another company working with oil analysis
  • Speak and write English fluently – Danish is not a prerequisite.

Could this opportunity be the catalyst for your next career move?
If you think so, then do not hesitate to apply. Please submit your application and resume in English and enclose a copy of your references through our website www.topsoe.com.

If you have any questions regarding the position, then do not hesitate to contact R&D Manager Peter Wiwel on +45 2275 4417 or PEW@topsoe.com.
