Two statisticians for Epidemiological Research at Statens Serum Institut, Copenhagen

Statens Serum Institut

The Department of Epidemiology Research at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark, is looking for two highly motivated statisticians for epidemiological research projects in an international and cross-disciplinary research environment encompassing medical doctors, statisticians, bioinformaticians, biologists and public health scientists.

About us
The Department of Epidemiology Research presently employs 35 people (including 9 statisticians) who carry out epidemiology research with a focus on infectious diseases, drugs, vaccines, heart diseases, cancer, nutrition as well as on genetics. Our research is primarily based on data from Danish national registries and The Danish National Biobank. Our goal is to produce research of the highest possible quality to guide and influence clinical medicine and public health.

About the position
As a statistician in our Department, you will become part of research teams working on epidemiological research projects of the highest international standards. This could be studies on who are at highest risk for severe COVID-19 disease, how effective is the seasonal influenza vaccine, or is it safe to use antidepressants during pregnancy. It is important to us that you take an active part in the initial research planning and take responsibility for statistical analyses of large data sets and that you contribute to the publication of research results in scientific papers.

You will become part of an active and dynamic research environment with regular meetings among statisticians where ideas and experiences are exchanged, and study groups discussing statistical topics e.g. in the form of book clubs on statistical textbooks.

Qualifications and background
We expect you to have:

  • An MSc in statistics or equivalent
  • Interest in biostatistics and epidemiological methods
  • Motivation to continually improve your skills in biostatistics and epidemiological methods
  • Skills in R or in a comparable statistical programming language
  • Fluency in written and oral English.

In addition, we find it important that you enjoy working on several projects at a time and in a cross disciplinary setting with colleagues.

Newly graduates as well as statisticians with experience are encouraged to apply. Newer statisticians will be supervised by senior statisticians in the Department. A Ph.D. scholarship is a future possibility. If you already have biostatistical experience within epidemiology research, we can tailor the position to match your qualifications.

Conditions of employment
The position is covered by the terms of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

Further information
For further information about the positions, please contact interim Head of Department Anders Hviid, tel. +45 3268 3967 , or Chief Statistician Jan Wohlfahrt, tel. +45 3268 3952.
