Taxation strongly influences the society as a whole as well as its individual actors, such as businesses. In other words, if appropriately used, taxation is a strong tool in trying to push necessary societal transformations. In recent years, more demand has been put for research in responsible tax, which is the idea that tax, rather than pure compliance with law, also should be approached from the viewpoint of all stakeholders and the role it plays in society.

By announcing a PhD position in tax law, the Department wishes to strengthen its research capacity within this legal field. The candidate should have a relevant academic background in law, commercial law or auditing and should have strong analytical and legal dogmatic skills. It will be considered an advantage if the candidate already has knowledge on Danish tax law and the Danish language. We seek research proposals addressing one or several of the following themes:

  • Tax law as a tool to steer the green transformation
  • Tax law and corporate social responsibility (responsible tax)
  • Danish tax law
  • International tax law
  • Comparative tax law
  • EU tax law

CBS LAW is internationally recognised for the excellence in law scholarship and for an interdisciplinary, proactive and dynamic research perspective within law in Northern Europe. CBS LAW concentrates on providing unique research relevant for the Danish business community, public sector, and society in general and engages in research firmly grounded in business and societal problems. Our perspective is both Nordic, EU and global and is based not only on traditional law disciplines but also on a unique interface between law, management, entrepreneurship, economics and policymaking.

We invite applications in any area which fits the description above and can be supervised within it (by two members of faculty).

The three-year PhD program at CBS allows you to conduct research under the supervision of CBS professors, supported by research training courses. The program is highly international, and you are expected to participate in international research conferences and to spend time abroad as a visiting PhD student. See the CBS homepage for more information about the PhD program,

http://www.cbs.dk/en/research/phd-programmes.

It is also required that the applicant shows an interest in joining the Department’s research environment. CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in government and businesses where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programs. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).

The planned starting date for the positions is on 1 September 2021 but may be agreed upon individually.

CBS welcomes applications that include an element of co-financing, which could for instance be in the shape of a partnership with one or several private or public organisations sharing an interest in the topic – in the spirit of the Danish Industrial PhD scheme. It should, however, be stressed that co-financing is not a requirement. Successful applications are solely selected based on the excellence and relevance of the proposals submitted and the qualifications and potential of the applicants.
