The Danish School of Education at Aarhus University invites applications for a permanent position as professor of educational psychology.

The position is a full-time, permanent position that begins on 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is located either at the Aarhus Campus, or at the Emdrup Campus (Copenhagen).

The position
DPU aims to use this professorship in educational psychology to underline its ambition to be among the top universities in the world in this field. The successful applicant is expected to strengthen research activity and output as well as contributing to the high profile of research within the field of educational psychology at Aarhus University.

The professorship in educational psychology is located at the Department of Educational Psychology, where theoretical psychological approaches to the field of educational and pedagogical practices as such are the centre of interest. The tradition of educational psychology in a Danish context encompasses both a broad range of subjects and a broad range of psychological and methodological approaches including social science studies in educational psychology. Subjects such as motivation and leadership, engagement and learning communities are of interest to the department in relation to this position in educational psychology.

The successful applicant is expected to contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange, and to provide academic leadership relating to research, education and academic development.
Research
The Department of Educational Psychology at Aarhus University has a pronounced and significant international profile and a strong research network. The successful applicant is expected to take a leading role in further developing research in the field of educational psychology.

The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to research initiatives in relation to the field of educational psychology and the general research community at the Danish School of Education in terms of new research projects with internal and external partners, and external research funding.

Applicants must be able to document original scientific production at the highest international level, as well as significant scholarly contributions to theoretical and thematic developments within the field of leadership, motivation, engagement and learning communities. An innovative theoretical and/or empirical approach to the field of educational psychology is an advantage. Applicants are also asked to state their visions for future developments in the field as well as documenting a solid track record in research leadership, international research funding and international research cooperation.

It is vital that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the Department of Educational Psychology, such as research and teaching activities and communities, as well as management and/or organisational boards (boards of studies and various managerial positions).

Education
The successful applicant will be expected to have solid experience of teaching at university level, and should be prepared to teach and supervise at all levels of the degree programmes in educational psychology (MA and PhD), and in DPU’s cross-departmental MA programmes. Motivating and engaging participation in the teaching communities in and across departments is expected.

The successful applicant will also be expected to be the driving force in developing new degree programmes within the field of motivation, engagement and learning communities with a particular focus on young people and adults.
Talent development

The successful applicant will be expected to recruit and supervise PhD students and participate in the development and implementation of PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society and the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
Applicants must document a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field related to educational psychology as well as teaching and research experience commensurate with that attained through an associate professorship.

Applicants must be able to document:

  • Academic publications at the highest international level, including research innovation related to subjects such as motivation and leadership, engagement and learning communities
  • An innovative theoretical and empirical approach to educational psychology
  • Experience of active participation in international research collaboration
  • Experience of research organisation, including obtaining and administering external funding
  • Strong teaching competences and experience of supervising at all levels
  • Solid experience of leadership in research and education communities
  • Commitment to teaching development, the supervision of student projects, talent development, research management and the development of PhD courses.

Applicants must provide research plans and explain how they will meet the expectations of the professorship to strengthen and develop research and teaching in relation to subjects such as motivation and leadership, engagement and learning communities as well as in relation to the innovative use of psychological and methodological approaches. Experience of the development of degree programmes and teaching will also be considered an advantage.

Owing to the increasingly international nature of the degree programmes in question, applicants must be able to teach and publish in English. If the successful applicant cannot speak Danish, he/she will be required to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.
