The Danish Institute for Human Rights is looking for two interns to work with the Human Rights and Development Department. The Department is split into two Programmes: Data and Accountability; and Tools and Targets. Both programmes work together closely and each programme is seeking an intern.

As interns in the Human Rights and Development Department, you will contribute to our ongoing work to integrate human rights standards and principles into the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

You will gain a solid understanding of the relationship between human rights standards and processes and the Sustainable Development Goals. You will contribute to strategic research and concrete actions to ensure that human rights institutions and bodies have the capacity to contribute to the realisation of the 2030 Agenda. Please consult www.humanrights.dk for a general introduction to the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

You will be assigned a supervisor and undertake some of the following tasks:

  • Support research in human rights areas, as they relate to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
  • Support the development of tools and approaches for promoting human rights in sustainable development
  • Contribute to collaboration with and capacity-building of partners, including national human rights institutions, in regional- and country-level work
  • Support research related to the promotion of human rights in national implementation, review and reporting of the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Carry out ad-hoc tasks in relation to ongoing project work

  • Relevant first degree with a good grade in development studies, human rights law or other fields of relevance to this work
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic an advantage
  • Experienced user of the Microsoft package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Solid communication skills (both written and oral)

It is a requirement that you currently are or will be enrolled in an ongoing education programme and should be able to have your internship transferred into credits.

We expect that the internship will be based remotely and conducted online, given the unpredictability of the COVID-19 situation globally. IF there is a change in the Danish regulations allowing for our work to be office-based during the period of this internship, we may consider an office-based position, but we cannot guarantee this will be the case.

The position is full-time and based in Copenhagen. We offer up to a six-month contract, and duration and starting date (preferably in September 2021) can be negotiated. Our internships do not provide a salary.

Please send a CV and a covering letter, indicating your suitability for the internship. Deadline for applications is

Sunday 16th May 2021.
Please make use of the link on this page. Please pay attention to language requirements.

We expect to conduct interviews within 14 days of the deadline - in person or via Skype.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights is an equal opportunities employer and encourages all interested candidates to apply.

Should you have any questions about the position, please contact Francesca Thornberry (frth@humanrights.dk).

Application deadline: 16 May 2021
