Sustainability Assistant – Life Cycle Analysis and materials

Bjarke Ingels Group is offering a paid internship within BIG Sustainability, which is an interdisciplinary team at BIG based in the Copenhagen office. The position will focus on informing the design process with Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), materials, and sustainable strategies. This is a rare interdisciplinary opportunity to learn about material selection, sharpen your critical eye on the impact of design decisions on the environment, and help develop techniques for integrating data visualization into architectural drawings. BIG Sustainability work hand-in-hand with design teams on more than half of BIG’s projects. We work almost exclusively with open-source tools, so the techniques you learn will remain accessible to you throughout your career.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of architecture, construction architecture- or engineering education behind them, and a huge interest in LCA, sustainability, materiality, and construction details.
Important skills and areas of interest include strong LCA simulation skills, representational skills, and experience in Revit, Rhino, Illustrator, and InDesign. Your job will be to assist our sustainability team in supporting the entire office, with LCA calculations and material investigations. You are knowledgeable about buildability, details, and materials. And are comfortable calling up producers and asking for product details. We seek to support your learning and growth throughout the internship, so all are encouraged to apply. The most important factor is that you are eager to learn, research and develop your skills.

To consider you, we need to see your CV, portfolio, and a letter describing your motivation. Please also write and show your interest in LCA and sustainability. Applications missing a cover letter will not be considered.

Please note that graduates cannot be interns. You must be a current student for the duration of the internship period to be an intern at BIG.

The internship is for a duration of 6-12 months with the possibility of further extension.

Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Applicants who will require a visa to work in Denmark are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Start date: 01.12.2022, or as soon as possible.
