Do you want to contribute to the green transition by developing P2X technology? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

P2X is becoming a key technology in green energy infrastructures, and its core is electrolysis. The most efficient electrolysis technology is solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC), but the primary concern for implementing SOEC on a large scale is the loss of efficiency caused by cell degradation. The goal of the project is to bring the SOEC technology ahead by offering a better understanding of SOEC cell degradation mechanism.

The work is part of the ERC project “High-temperature Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Transmission electron microscopy on energy materials” (HEIST). As part of the project you will be part of a team with ties to other research institutions and industry.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your focus will be to directly link structural and compositional changes in the cells with the electrochemical environment (gas composition, temperature and electrical polarization) in order to gain new fundamental insight into the degradation mechanism of cells.

You will do this by applying our recently developed method for operando electrochemical TEM experiments, where electrochemical experiments are performed inside an environmental TEM (ETEM) in reactive gasses, at elevated temperatures and with electrical polarization.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). You are expected to have the following qualifications

  • Knowledge about electrochemistry
  • Knowledge about solid oxide electrolysis or solid oxide fuel cells
  • Experience with transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
  • Experience with focused ion beam (FIB)
  • Experience with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

Eligible candidates should have:

  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • The ability to work independently with high motivation
  • Interest in contributing positively to a new research group with a collaborative and diverse culture
  • A creative mindset for solving problems and identify new directions and opportunities in your project.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is 1st of March 2023 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
