Are you engaged in global development and humanitarian assistance issues? Here is an opportunity to further develop your knowledge and skills with one of Denmark’s largest NGOs. DanChurchAid (DCA) seeks an intern for the Programme, Policy, Advocacy and Learning Unit to assist us in trend analysis, basic research, data management and other tasks to guide our programming and advocacy work in support of building resilient communities. You will be working with an inspiring and strong team of committed colleagues in our Copenhagen office with links to our 20 country offices in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Build Resilient Communities:

In the Build Resilient Communities team, we work to support individuals and communities to enjoy resilient livelihoods and adapt to climate change, while at the same time advocating for changes in current systems to ensure that the communities that we work with are engaged in green and sustainable food and market systems and benefit from policies that support climate justice and environmental restoration. We do so, by providing technical support to country offices, develop guidelines and tools and promote knowledge and experience sharing across staff and partners.

We are also working to mainstream climate and environment in our organization, partnerships, and programmes, including analysing our own carbon footprint to identify actions to reduce our negative impact and moreover to identify opportunities to increase our positive impact in the environment across our international work as well as in our work in Denmark (e.g., second-hand shops, Wefood shops, etc.).

As an intern your key responsibilities can include:

  • Support the data analysis for DCA’s carbon footprint across country offices and operations in Denmark to support setting emissions reduction targets and action plans.
  • Support the analysis of the climate and environmental impact of DCA’s food-systems related projects and operations, e.g., agricultural value chain projects, Wefood shops, etc.
  • Support the update of DCA’s climate policy and awareness raising across units and country offices towards fulfilling climate and environmental objectives and ambitions.
  • Participate in and contribute to thematic, programmatic, and strategic work on resilience, including the topics of food systems, climate change, agroecology, etc.
  • Conduct screening of relevant research and trends in areas relevant to resilience building and capture learning to improve DCA practice
  • Support organizational learning by assisting on the planning and running of webinars within the Build Resilience and Climate Communities of Practice.

Your profile:

  • Interested in development and humanitarian work.
  • Enrolled in a relevant university programme (e.g., development studies, environmental sciences, political science, social science, human rights, etc.).
  • Fluent in English both orally and written.
  • Possess research skills as well as the ability to compile complex information into easy-to-understand briefing material.
  • Preferably with knowledge on GHG emissions accounting, life cycle analysis, and/or other environmental management tools.
  • Proactive nature with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in Excel, Word, PPT and other applications at intermediate level.
  • Can work full-time in the spring semester 2023.
