The University seeks to appoint a professor within Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence as soon as possible.

At the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology we work in a dynamic and commited academic community of research, education, innovation, and outreach within the Pharmaceutical Sciences bridging Health Science and Life Science. We value interdisciplinary research and education, development of individual competences, and finding solutions to todays and tomorrows challenges in society.

Job description
A professor at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology is a committed and responsible member of our academic community providing research, education, innovation, and outreach activities to the society. The successful applicant and group members will be an organizational part of the medicinal chemistry discipline and active in interdisciplinary research clusters and disciplinary teaching groups. We aspire to facilitate research across complementary and synergistic research disciplines. The research clusters provide a departmental framework for scientific collaboration at high international level, and facilitate an inspiring scientific working environment. The professor is also expected to take active part in Center for Medicinal Chemistry – an interfacultive initiative at KU.

The applicant should have a strong research background in radiopharmaceutical chemistry, for details see “Desired qualifications”. Additionally, a proven track-record of developing academic courses at the pre or post graduate level is required.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination of results to the scientific community and to the general public
  • Develop, organize, and conduct research-based teaching, including associated examination, within the field of medicinal chemistry, with a special focus on pharmaceutical radiochemistry
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers
  • Engage in outreach and/or innovation activities both within the Department and towards academia, the clinic, and industry in general
  • Being a committed and dedicated member of the Department’s academic community
  • Obligation to share knowledge with society, e.g. participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. The applicant must be able to document:

  • Original academic production at high international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline within: research, teaching, innovation, and outreach
  • Leadership and/or management functions, e.g. engagement in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Development, organisation, and conduction of research-based teaching as well as supervision of students

The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Desired qualifications:
(i) Demonstrated ability to establish a research program and international network with focus on radiopharmaceutical sciences

(ii) An established record in radiopharmaceutical chemistry with focus on the development of PET tracers and theranostics for CNS and cancer

(iii) An established record in working with small molecules, peptides, and larger molecules such as mAbs or polymers

(iv) Experienced in the design and synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, and with preclinical development in animals

(v) Capacity to instigate and participate in collaborative science at the international level involving scientists across scientific disciplines and sectors, including the pharmaceutical industry and clinical departments

(vi) Documented expertise in development of courses and teaching in radiopharmaceutical chemistry

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Application procedure
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed on for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific position. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
