Thesis Work for Performance Testing Framework
Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future. At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.
Within ABB Robotics R&D System and Test department we are proposing a master thesis for the next spring semester. One of the department's focus areas is to develop the software test infrastructure, tools and methodologies. Background: Today robot controller software (RobotWare) is tested with several thousand regression and validation tests that are running during nighttime. This is efficient to find logic errors, but current tests are not efficient to find decreased performance. Sometimes it takes months to detect that there has been a change that has decreased performance in some way. It can be increased CPU-usage, increased memory consumption or increased time consumption in a robot program. There is a need for a new framework that enables performance testing. Details: • Period: January-June 2024 • Number of credits: Master thesis 30p • Number of students: 1-2 • Location: Robotics R&D office at Finnslätten, Västerås
Your responsibilities
- Thesis work includes an investigation of how to detect a software change in RobotWare that is causing decreased performance
- The work should also include some proof-of-concept implementation of a testing framework written in C#
- It could include machine learning to detect that there has been a decreased performance
- Machine learning might be used to find that a specific software change will likely cause problems with performance
- Suggestions and modifications of thesis work are appreciated
- The thesis work is independent, but you will be a part of an agile scrum team feeling the pulse of the daily work in the team
- You will have a dedicated supervisor helping you in the right direction and a lot of possibilities to influence the way forward as you see fit
Your background
- Engineering student within Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Information Technology, System Engineering or other program with similar profile
- Comfortable working with systems and programming in a hobby, university or professional context
- Curious and eager to learn
