Part-time student assistant to the EnJustice Project at IT University of Copenhagen

IT-Universitetet (ITU)

The Transitional Environmental Justice (EnJUSTICE) project is looking to hire a student assistant for three to four working hours a week for a period of 48 months to assist with administrative work and communicating research to the broader society. The part-time student assistant position primarily consists of tasks in planning, administrative support, website maintenance and SoMe platforms, as well as smaller research tasks.

The Enjustice project is funded under the Nordforsk Green Transition call (Democratic Engagement and Citizen-Involvement in Green Transition). The EnJUSTICE research project aspires to bring the voices of excluded/marginalized communities (including Indigenous and grassroots local communities) in Greenland, Lithuania, and Sápmi into the Nordic-Baltic green transition strategy debate. The project will feature a website and an online forum for community partners to directly communicate and exchange best practices toward transformative environmental justice. EnJustice is an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with Lund University, Oslo University, the Finnish Environment Institute, Mykolas Romeris University, and the IT University of Copenhagen. Together the five partner institutions team up with Indigenous and local grassroots communities in Greenland, Lithuania, and Sápmi to understand how their struggles for environmental justice may inform one another and help the Nordic approach to green transition into a holistic understanding of environmental justice informed by community-based and decolonial action.

We invite applicants who want to contribute to academic research that supports forms of democratic engagement with the explicit aim of balancing the unequal distribution of power between Indigenous and grassroots local communities and powerful stakeholders in formulating key policies toward fossil-free energy production in the Nordics. We work with a truly participatory research approach that engages all communities involved in the investigation process.

Primary tasks will be:

  • Administrative research support to the members of the project, working directly with PI of the project, Associate Professor Vasilis Galis
  • Internal and external communication tasks such as scheduling meetings, writing meeting agendas and taking notes, creating events and collaborating with all partners and collaborators about external communication of events
  • Helping with outreach through website administration and social media channels
  • Helping with overall dissemination tasks

Preferred qualifications
We expect the student assistant to take an active interest in the project and have experience with transformative justice practices, crisis management, contingency planning, as well as website maintenance and SoMe. Students with a bachelor’s in social work or similar background are especially welcome to apply.
