Postdoc within Gut microbiome research

Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen, is recognized for excellence in food research, food science education, and industry collaboration. It covers all disciplines of food science from raw materials to processing and consumption, and is organized in four sections, one of which is the section for “Food Microbiologym Gut Health and Fermentation”, where the position is placed. Gut and ruminant microbiome research is a strong focus area. Further information about the Department can be found at https://food.ku.dk/.
The postdoc’s duties will include research within ruminant microbiome research with focus on investigating ways of reducing methane emission. The post may also include performance of other duties.
The position is open from June 15, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter for 24 months with possibility for prolongation of the contract.
Preferred qualifications
The preferred candidate holds a PhD within microbiology or related research fields and has strong experience within gut/ruminant microbiome research in general, preferably with experience in handling methane-producing and methane-consuming microbes in vitro. The project will combine wet-lab work with bioinformatics and the ideal candidate will have strong experience with both. Furthermore, it is expected that the candidate has strong qualifications within several of the following areas:
- Cultivation of methane-producing and methane-consuming microbes
- Cultivation of obligate anaerobic bacteria
- Metagenomics and/or metaviromics
- Ruminant in vitro systems

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
