Postdoc in High-Speed Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution using Squeezed Light – DTU Physics

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

You are passionate about working at the absolute forefront of technology? Here is the opportunity for you to fulfil your dreams and ambitions! Within this position you will advance CV-QKD towards higher speeds and larger distances by utilizing squeezed states of light from photonic integrated sources and investigate it in point-to-point and multi-user network configurations.
You are passionate about working at the absolute forefront of technology? Here is the opportunity for you to fulfil your dreams and ambitions!

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) offers unique advantages for the distribution of secret keys between two parties for data encryption. Utilizing components similar to standard telecom components makes it an attractive solution for cost-effective and high-performance metropolitan applications. The technology exhibits strong parallels with coherent optical telecommunication. However, noise is absolutely crucial as it is attributed to an eavesdropper, therefore presenting exciting challenges and opportunities.

Within this position you will advance CV-QKD towards higher speeds and larger distances by utilizing squeezed states of light from photonic integrated sources and investigate it in point-to-point and multi-user network configurations.

The position will be hosted by the Section of Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) at the Department of Physics of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are a dynamic, innovative and diverse research team focused on all aspects of CV-QKD. Our team is passionate about advancing secure communication methods based on quantum physics and bringing quantum key distribution to the people. We have a wide range of academic and industry collaborations, e.g. as part of the EU Flagship on quantum technology and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure.

Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will conduct experimental research in advanced continuous-variable quantum key distribution by employing squeezed states of light. You will:

  • advance the state-of-the-art of squeezed light-based quantum key distribution systems towards longer distances.
  • use photonic integrated squeezed light sources with a large squeezing bandwidth to increase speed.
  • test high-speed squeezed light quantum key distribution in the field with deployed fiber.

You have a passion for continuous-variable quantum optics or coherent telecommunication systems, and you are intrigued by its application in continuous-variable quantum key distribution. You enjoy finding clever solutions to difficult problems and further you have the following qualifications:

  • Experimental experience with coherent telecommunication systems or continuous-variable quantum key distribution.
  • Experience with python programming.
  • Experience with version control systems (git)
  • Experience with fiber optic setups and setups with photonic integrated chips.
  • Experience with control systems.
  • You thrive by working in a diverse and multidisciplinary team of people.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
