At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Sustainability and Planning a position as three-year full time Assistant Professor in Techno-Anthropology and Health Informatics is open for appointment from July 1st, 2024, or soon hereafter. The position as Assistant Professor is based in the Techno-Anthropology and Participation (TAPAR) research group at the Department of Sustainability and Planning. As an assistant professor you are expected to develop your own research agenda within the broad field of Techno-Anthropology in Health Informatics and contribute to teaching in the Department of Sustainability and Planning’s bachelor, master’s, and continuing education programmes. The position will be based in Aalborg.

As an Assistant Professor, you will develop an independent research agenda that connects Techno-Anthropology and Health Informatics. The research could, but not limited to, include development of sociotechnical approaches to exploring the intricacies of human-robot interaction within healthcare environments and healthcare systems.

Aalborg University commits to Problem-based learning(PBL) and as an assistant professor, you will contribute to the teaching of the Department of Sustainability and Planning’s bachelor and master’s programmes, especially the interdisciplinary bachelor(in Danish), master(in English) programmes in Techno-Anthropology and other educations at AAU. Proficiency in Danish is therefore an advantage.

Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in the field of Techno-Anthropology, or related fields and have experience from engaging with qualitative research methods applied in real-world contexts. The assistant professor is expected to contribute to the life and administration of the Danish Center for Health informatics. Qualification requirements:

  • A Ph.D. degree in the field of Techno-Anthropology or related fields;
  • A proven ability to contribute to international scientific research on the relations between in Techno-Anthropology, digital health, as well as contribution to practice-oriented research dissemination, e.g., reports or policy outlets;
  • Experience in dissemination at both national and international levels is strongly preferred;
  • Relevant administrative experience and experience with teaching human-robot interaction, digital health, human-technology relations, real-world applications of robots, sociotechnical analysis, at bachelor and master level, as well as experience with supervision of students in accordance with the PBL principles;
  • Academic experience from interdisciplinary research projects is highly desired, particularly in relation to recent theoretical and empirical developments in Techno-Anthropologyand healthcare practices;
  • Proficiency in Danish or another Scandinavian language and English.

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on:

  • The applicant's academic and research experience;
  • The applicant’s fundraising experience and strategy;
  • Teaching experience.

Proficiency in Danish is a requirement for fulfilling teaching obligations and conducting fieldwork. If the candidate is not proficient in Danish, she/he has to acquire the proficiency in Danish within the first two years of the employment.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position(appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • A statement outlining your reasons for applying, and intentions and visions with, the position.
  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas(Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. All applicants will be informed as to whether they will advance to assessment or not.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
