PhD Fellowship in functional proteomics and tissue plasticity

Syddansk Universitet (SDU)

Application deadline: 19 June 2024 at 23:59 hours local Danish time
The DNRF Center of Excellence, Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS), at the University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a PhD scholarship from outstanding candidates with a keen interest in applying mass spectrometry-based functional proteomics to understand the molecular and cellular basis underlying tissue plasticity. The position is available from 1 September 2024.

Application deadline: 19 June 2024 at 23:59 hours local Danish time
The Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity, ATLAS (Center Director Prof. Susanne Mandrup) aims to obtain system-level, mechanistic and cell type-resolved understanding of adipose and hepatic tissue plasticity in response to diet induced obesity and regression in mouse models; and to translate this for in-depth understanding of the functional changes in these human tissues in response to severe obesity and reversal. The center applies a combination of next generation sequencing-based approaches, mouse models, proteomics, in vivo targeting, computational biology and clinical studies.

Qualifications/requirements
The position will be based in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark. The PhD student will work primary in the group of Prof. Blagoy Blagoev, and will be involved in the studies of cellular plasticity in liver and adipose tissues using functional proteomics and advanced computational approaches. We seek highly motivated, dedicated and ambitious scientist with strong communication and collaborative skills. The successful candidate should have documented experience with mass spectrometry-based proteomics and have a Master’s or Bachelor degree (possibility for a 4+4 PhD, see below) in Life Sciences, preferably proteomics, molecular biology, biomedicine, or systems biology. Additional experience with cell and molecular biology techniques, and familiarity with computational data analysis will be greatly valued. The candidate should be proficient in spoken and written English and have an interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment.

We offer

  • A PhD position in a stimulating and supportive, international research environment
  • Access to state-of-the-art equipment, facilities and infrastructure
