POSTDOC IN GLASS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a Postdoc position in glass science and technology is open for appointment from 1st of February 2025 or soon hereafter. It is a fulltime position. The position is available for two years. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience provides cutting-edge research and teaching in biotechnology, biology, environmental science, chemistry and chemical engineering. Our research solves important topics for the benefit of society, and through research-based teaching, we educate independent, collaborative and solution-oriented bachelors, graduates and PhDs.At the department, we have high-profile research groups and individual researchers who deliver world-class applied and basic scientific research with a mission-driven approach, and who contribute to the development of new technologies, methods, and new basic insights within natural science and engineering. The department is divided into two sections: Section for Bioscience and Engineering and Section for Chemical Science and Engineering, as well as one administration. Both sections have activities on both Aalborg and Esbjerg campuses. The day-to-day management is handled by the head of department, the deputy heads of research and education, and the head of the secretariat in collaboration with section leaders.

The project will be performed through collaboration between Aalborg University and ROCKWOOL A/S.
The ROCKWOOL Group is the world’s leading manufacturer of engineered stone wool products with 46 manufacturing facilities and approximately 12,000 employees distributed worldwide. The ROCKWOOL Group is delivering specialist options for the building, industrial, horticultural, marine, transport and offshore sectors. Stone wool products are produced by melting raw materials at 1500°C and subsequently spinning the melt into fibres. After spinning, the fibres are collected and formed into a compact wool structure which form the end-product. One of the key performance parameters of stone wool is its fire-performance, or high-temperature stability, l and the subject of this postdoc is designed to support this.
The project will investigate the influence of selected parameters on the high-temperature stability of stone wool. The project will be performed in an interdisciplinary environment, utilizing the expertise and experimental equipment available at Aalborg University and at the manufacturing sites and research laboratories at ROCKWOOL A/S. This includes a variety of facilities for producing, characterizing, testing and investigating raw melts and stone wool fibres. The project will focus on both physical and chemical processes in the ROCKWOOL production.
Competences of the ideal applicant:
- Hold a PhD degree in glass science or in a relevant field
- Solid publication record
- Experience with glass science, high-temperature analysis of mineral wool, mineral wool production, as well as in thermal analysis, crystallographic techniques, redox reactions, chemical reactions, spectroscopy and microscopy will be an advantage
- Complex problem-solving skills and critical thinking
- Ability to work on an interdisciplinary project
- Highly motivated
- Ability to conduct work in a structured and systematic manner and with a sufficient degree of freedom
- An integrative and cooperative personality with good communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English– written and oral

Qualification requirements
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Assessment

The employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state(AC collective agreement)(only in Danish) and circular concerning protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities(only in Danish).
