Job description
The Unit of Health Promotion Research, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, Campus Esbjerg invites applications for a position as assistant professor, 37 hours per week, in the field of health promotion and public health from 1 June 2025 and for a period of 4 years.

The successful applicant will be expected to conduct and publish internationally competitive research in the fields of health promotion and public health and contribute to development of strong partnerships with external partners from different sectors and arenas on development and co-creation of joint research projects of benefit for the surrounding society.

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching of courses and supervision of students from:

  • The bachelor program in Public Health at SDU, Campus Odense (taught in Danish)
  • The Master program in Public Health at SDU, Campus Esbjerg (taught in English, both Danish and international students).

This work will be conducted in an open and inspiring work environment of a multidisciplinary group of researchers from different disciplines, including public health, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, biology and epidemiology. The candidate must be able to work cross-disciplinary in teams’ collaboration between researchers and the surrounding society.

Current research lines of the Unit for Health Promotion Research focus on social determinants of health and health inequalities, intervention to promote health and/or prevent disease and health policies.

Required qualifications

  • A PhD degree in Public Health or closely related field.
  • Research experience documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of health promotion and public health
  • Documented teaching experience, preferably from the field of public health.
  • Experience with conducting research in collaboration with external partners, e.g. municipalities.
  • Good spoken and written skills in both Danish and English

Further assets of the candidates are:

Experience with project coordination, funding applications, international research collaboration and collaboration with practice partners.

Salary and terms of employment
The applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
