At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production one or more Postdoc positions in the area of Optimization and Algorithm Design are open for appointment from May 1st 2025 or soon thereafter.

The positions are within the Operations Research(OR) group at Aalborg University and the research will be conducted in highly synergetic cooperation with leading Danish and European companies and international academic partners. The OR group focuses on solving complex problems, which require high-level modelling, data analysis and management capabilities as well as developing solution algorithms applying mathematical and computational approaches. The group has a particular focus on automated decision making in autonomous cyber-physical systems. The application area of the work covers a wide range of such systems spanning AGVs, UAVs, USVs, satellites, and more. These topics are also the ones addressed by this position. The applicant’s profile should therefore, ideally, address one or several of topics within AI: optimization algorithm(learning-based, heuristics, meta-heuristics, exact methods), MCDM(preference integration and mathematical modelling), algorithm design, development, and implementation.

We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Computer Science, Operations Research, and Mathematics. Backgrounds in algorithm design and implementation, or machine learning or computational optimization along with strong programming skills, in e.g., Java, C, C++ and Python, will be an advantage. The candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing research projects as well as participate in activities supporting future research projects and initiatives.

As a successful applicant, you will participate in research projects with world-leading partners in areas such as: manufacturing, transportation, health care and aerospace. You will contribute to academic and collaborative research activities in the group and with external partners. You will also contribute to education activities in bachelor and master programs supported by the group.

The candidate should be able to highlight research activities in the form of ISI’s Web of Science publications and the preferred candidate will also be able to demonstrate the application of research in practice. Appropriate candidates should have a master’s and PhD degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Robotics or a related field.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Assessment
The assessment of candidates for the position will be carried out by qualified experts.

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state(AC collective agreement)(only in Danish) and circular concerning protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities(only in Danish).
