Associate Professor in Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Associate Professor in Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics is open for appointment from 1 August 2025 or soon hereafter. The workplace is in Aalborg.

The Associate Professor is expected to establish own research group with focus on large-scale microbial genomics and bioinformatics. The position will be anchored in Center for Microbial Communities with approx. 50 scientists at various career levels, working with structure and function of microbial communities, primarily related to environmental microbiology and biotechnology. The Center has state of the art equipment for DNA analyses, computing and advanced microscopy. The successful candidate must have documented expertise in microbial(meta)genomics, bioinformatics and statistics and have demonstrate independent and outstanding research within the focus area.
Teaching will primarily be in microbiology, genomics, statistics and bioinformatics, but also in other study programmes at the University.

At the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience(BIO), our high-level research spans from basic to applied within both natural sciences and engineering. Qualification requirements
The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

- A current curriculum vitae.
- Copies of relevant diplomas(Master of Science and PhD- both in english).
- Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
- Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
- Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
- Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
- References/recommendations.
- Personal data.

Assessment
The assessment of applicants for the position will be carried out by an assessment committee.
Shortlisting will be applied. This means that the head of the department, with the assistance of the hiring committee, will select candidates for assessment. Candidates selected for assessment will then be informed about the composition of the assessment committee. All candidates will be notified whether they have been shortlisted for assessment or not.
Applicants who are selected for assessment will have the opportunity to comment on their assessment.
When the hiring process is completed, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state(AC collective agreement)(only in Danish) and circular concerning protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities(only in Danish).
