Scientific Researcher in Experimental Atherosclerosis at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus, Aarhus University Hospital

Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus (SDCA) at Aarhus University Hospital (AUH) is recruiting a clinical researcher for a time limited position for 24 months. Starting date is April 1st 2025 or as soon as possible.

Job Description
SDCA brings together all aspects of diabetes treatment, clinical diabetes research and education under the same roof, thereby offering more integrated treatment in an environment with world-class scientists and physicians.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist in the field of experimental cardiometabolic disease to study the function of smooth muscle cells in atherosclerosis and related vascular diseases. The applicant must have a track record in cardiometabolic research, training in experimental vascular biology, and hands-on experience with mouse models of atherosclerosis, cell culture, and molecular biology.

The fellow will develop and manage independent research activities within the field but also be expected to use up to 20% of the time to assist the leadership at SDCA (Head of Research and research leader) by tasks related to the research infrastructure at SDCA. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, supervision of students and the organisation of seminars and courses.

Selection criteria

  • PhD in the cardiovascular field.
  • Strong scientific track record, including relevant publications in cardiovascular research.
  • Ambitions and plans to drive the field of experimental atherosclerosis forward.
  • Certification to design and conduct animal experimentation in Denmark.
  • Experience in experimental mouse models of atherosclerosis.
  • Experience in cell culture and molecular biology.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • An analytical attitude of devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.
  • An enthusiastic, dedicated, and collaborative attitude.

Relationships

  • The successful candidate will be employed at SDCA.
  • The holder of the position will primarily report to the head of research at SDCA
  • The holder of the position will be integrated and have lab and office facilities within the Atherosclerosis Research Unit, Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University
  • The holder of the position is expected to interact with staff at all levels, both internally and externally, regarding relevant research topics.

Highly motivated and ambitious candidates are encouraged to apply. Solid experience in experimental vascular biology and an excellent track record within the research field will be considered a distinct advantage. Employment Conditions
The candidate will be employed in Central Denmark Region and place of employment will for the present be at AUH. Salary is in accordance with current agreement. Employment is conditional on a satisfactory child certificate.
