At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a Postdoc position in Insect Production is open for appointment from 01.12.2025 or soon hereafter. The position is for 9 months, and the workplace is in Aalborg.

Jobbeskrivelse
The Postdoc will be part of our team working with insect and focusing on optimizing production of insects for food and feed. The candidate will be involved in investigating how manipulation of endosymbionts can be used to optimize production of black soldier flies. We search for a person with hands on experience with black soldier flies and who has a strong interdisciplinary background integrating evolutionary biology, quantitative genetics and phenomics and with a proven record in attracting external funding.

The position will be anchored in Section for Functional Ecology and Genomics with approx. 15 scientists at various career levels, working with documenting impacts of biotic and abiotic factors on organismal, population and ecosystem levels and with providing solutions to major challenges related to food production, biodiversity loss and climate changes.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary and international research environment, collaborating with experts in evolutionary biology, microbiology, and ecology.

Teaching will primarily be in genetics and evolutionary biology, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Competences of the ideal applicant:

• Hold a PhD degree in evolutionary genetics or in a relevant field
• Solid publication record
• Experience with insect breeding, black soldier flies and endosymbionts
• Complex problemsolving skills and critical thinking
• Ability to work interdisciplinary
• Highly motivated
• Ability to conduct work in a structured and systematic manner and with a sufficient degree of freedom
• An integrative and cooperative personality with good communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in English– written and oral

Qualification requirements
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
