The Department of Technology and Innovation at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is excited to announce new position for an Associate Professor in Advanced Supply Chain Digitalisation.
The targeted starting time of the position is August 1, 2025.
The candidate will be responsible for collaboratively building up the area of supply chain advanced digitalisation with a primary focus on quantitative methods such as applied simulation, big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning as well as an ability to apply such skills to interventions research, field experiments, and similar methods. Moreover, the candidate must be able to incorporate insights from qualitative research into quantitative models.
The successful candidate will drive internationally recognized research, work closely with industry, and is expected to attract external research funding. The candidate will play a key role in providing outstanding education, supervising bachelor's and master’s students, and developing junior research staff.
We expect
A motivated, collaborative person who can work in an international and interdisciplinary team, with documented research skills in the field of supply chain. The candidate needs to be a team player and, at the same time, be able to work independently. The candidate is expected to be physically present at the campus in Odense, Denmark.
A background in engineering with an understanding of business principles is essential. A PhD degree related to supply chain management, operations management, operations research, or related fields is highly meritable. Non-engineers will not be considered. We expect to hire one candidate with the following profiles, as described next:
Profile
The ideal candidate can bridge theory and practice in one or more of the following areas:
- Machine learning applied to operations and supply chain management
- Advanced analytics for operations and supply chain management
- Data-driven demand forecasting
- Inventory management
- Time-series modelling
- Discrete-event, Agent-based, and Supply chain simulation
Required skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of software like Plant Simulation, AnyLogic, AnyLogistix, or the like
- Fluency in either MATLAB, Lingo, Python, R, SmartPLS, SPSS, or the like
- Should be able to teach courses with a hands-on, data-driven approach, such as “Machine Learning for O&SCM”, “Forecasting and Inventory Management’, or the like.
- Able to supervise students in projects related to applying advanced analytics and/or machine/deep learning for supply chain simulation and optimization.

Conditions of employment
Appointment as associate professor is permanent.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on salary and taxation.
The person employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial assessment, be exempted from time registration, also known as a self-organiser.
Employment as an associate professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific and teaching qualifications at a level achievable based on satisfactory completion of a period of employment as assistant professor/researcher but may be achievable by other means.
