Do you want to make a significant contribution to advancing the current state-of-the-art technology? Are you a talented, self-motivated, and team-oriented scientist who thrives in a collaborative environment? If you are looking to continue your career as a scientist (tenure track) and have a keen interest in fish farming and recirculation technology, here is an excellent opportunity for you.

We are seeking a Tenure Track Researcher to join our international group focused on recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and associated technologies. This role specifically involves work related to particles, biological and mechanical filtration, organic matter, and water quality parameters within these systems. You will play a central role in developing and investigating innovative approaches for particle and organic matter removal, microbial control, and water quality improvement in intensive fish farming systems.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Section for Aquaculture at DTU Aqua in Hirtshals, Denmark, to explore new technologies, methods, and approaches for optimizing water quality in RAS.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary focus will be to strengthen the department’s competencies and activities within recirculation technology and RAS. Specifically, you will investigate the effects of particles and organic matter within the system, including developing innovative means of removing and/or controlling them and associated water quality parameters. You will work on dissolved and particulate organic matter, physical, chemical, and microbial water quality, and new innovative technologies for recirculating aquaculture systems, partly including end-of-pipe removal.

The successful candidate will bring a relevant research record and a collaborative mindset, and possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in recirculating aquaculture systems and associated technology
  • Demonstrated experience in running experiments related to RAS and water quality
  • Specific knowledge of RAS, components, functionality and operation
  • Experience in sampling procedures and analyses related to water quality in RAS

You must contribute to the teaching of courses and supervision of students. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills
