The Saxo Institute, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen (UCPH) invites applicants for a student assistant at the Centre for Advanced Migration Studies (AMIS) to be filled as soon as possible.
The position offers 4 hours a week, flexible working hours with some weeks busier than others.
Position description
The Saxo Institute seeks a responsible and diligent student, to be based at the Institute’s interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Migration Studies (AMIS). The student will be working closely with and supporting the Centre Director and other staff in the Centre’s daily administrative tasks.
The Centre for Advanced Migration Studies is an interdisciplinary centre for migration research in the humanities and social sciences,focusing on moving populations and mobility practices as well as irregularized and forced migration. A main emphasis is put on qualitative methods, such as ethnography, together with a keen interest in collaboration with partners in various sectors of society. At the core of AMIS’ work is an ongoing critical and self-reflexive assessment of the exceptionality, irregularity and historicity of categories such as “refugee” and “migrant”, in effect broadening the scope of migration research to incorporate the many ways of being on the move in often precarious life situations.
The Centre offers a Master of Arts programme in Advanced Migration Studies, which is an ambitious two-year international programme combining humanities and social science approaches to migration.
The tasks will include helping with:
- Research Centre support: Meeting facilitation, digital meeting support, booking of rooms, onboarding of visiting scholars, interns.
- Economy and finance: assisting with budget monitoring, basic administration such as handling of settlements, travel bookings for guest lecturers, maintaining event calendar.
- Practical assistance: Supporting the AMIS Director in planning and executing research seminars, Brown bags, workshops, outreach, a yearly graduate conference, and extra-curricular activities like AMIS Culture Club.
- Internal and external communication: responsibility for mailing lists and responding to enquiries, PR and visual documentation of events and activities at the Centre.maintaining the Centre’s webpage and keeping an active profile on various SoMe platforms including Alumni Network platforms in collaboration with the AMIS director and staff.
Qualification requirements
- Administrative and organisational skills are an advantage.
- Independent and able to work in a collaborative and international work environment
- A high level of language proficiency in English is required, Danish language proficiency is an advantage.
- Experience with social media communication is an advantage.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office.
The Saxo Institute is dedicated to the study of human societies past and present, with degree programs ranging from History to Ethnology, Archeology, Classical Languages and Migration Studies. Terms and Conditions
The employment is made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and under the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT officers in the state. The minimum wage is DKK 144,80 (1 April 2026-level). Your salary will be based on seniority.
