Industrial PhD in Chronic Liver Disease: Biomarkers, Fibrosis, and Molecular Endotyping
Nordic Bioscience
Are you passionate about liver disease research and biomarker discovery? Do you enjoy working at the interface of laboratory science, clinical research, and data analysis, including machine learning, to improve prognosis and patient stratification in chronic liver disease (CLD)?
The Position
As an Industrial PhD student in the Hepatic & Pulmonary Research (HPR) team, you will contribute to cutting-edge international projects focused on extracellular matrix–based biomarkers for liver and lung fibrosis. This PhD project, co-funded by Innovation Fund Denmark, aims to advance the clinical use of fibrotic and immunological biomarkers in patients with chronic liver diseases, including steatotic liver disease.
The project is conducted at a high scientific level and is expected to result in publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at leading international conferences.
Your Background
You hold an MSc in Clinical Science and Technology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with experience in cell physiology. Hands-on experience with immuno-based systems, method development, and data analysis is highly desirable. You must not already hold a PhD degree.
Your Responsibilities
The project includes biomarker analyses in longitudinal clinical cohorts, combined with advanced data and statistical analyses. You will work closely with colleagues in the HPR team and external collaborators. We expect you to be collaborative, proactive, and comfortable communicating science to diverse stakeholders. Your key contributions will include:
- Driving clinical science within hepatic research, including evaluation of extracellular matrix–based biomarkers
- Developing and optimizing immunoassays for fibrotic diseases
- Performing statistical analyses in clinical cohorts
- Writing and publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers
- Presenting and promoting your research at international conferences
About the Department
The HPR team focuses on blood-based biomarkers for detection and monitoring of hepatic and pulmonary fibrosis. We develop state-of-the-art markers of extracellular matrix remodeling, such as PRO-C3, a widely used biomarker of liver fibrogenesis in clinical studies.
The team consists of approximately 20 scientists, students, and laboratory technicians, and collaborates closely with world-leading academic and clinical partners. High scientific quality, publication output, and international conference presence are central to our culture.
