Embedded Systems Test Engineer (Student Job)
DEIF A/S
Are you passionate about embedded systems and curious about how testing can improve the reliability of complex hardware–software solutions? Would you like a student job where your work makes a real impact and you advance your technical skills? Then take a look at this opportunity!
Start date: As soon as possible
Working hours: 10–15 hours per week (flexible and aligned with your studies)
At DEIF A/S, we develop advanced control solutions that keep power stable and efficient – whether from wind, solar, or traditional sources. With more than 700 employees worldwide, we set new standards in energy efficiency and power conversion, working every day to become the market leader in intelligent energy control. Together, we create solutions that Improve Tomorrow.
About the role
We are looking for a motivated student worker to help establish our first structured testing framework for DEIF’s converter controller platform. Today, testing is primarily performed ad hoc – this is your opportunity to help build a more systematic and scalable approach from the ground up.
You will primarily work on implementing and maintaining system-level smoke tests for our custom embedded hardware running power converter algorithms. Our system combines STM32 microprocessor firmware, Xilinx FPGA logic, and EtherCAT communication interfaces.
This is a hands-on role where your work will directly impact the development team’s productivity and the reliability of our mission-critical power conversion solutions.
You will join a team of 7 embedded software engineers working with firmware and FPGA logic for converter controllers. We value collaboration, continuous learning, and practical problem-solving – and your work will support the team in delivering reliable, well-tested control systems for modern electrical infrastructure.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
Test implementation
- Develop system-level smoke tests using Python (pytest) and our custom DUT interface
- Verify key functionality such as firmware flashing, sensor reading, setpoint writing, and system behaviour
Test execution & reporting
- Execute test suites and track results
- Document and communicate findings clearly to the team
Test maintenance
- Maintain and update tests as firmware and hardware evolve
- Collaborate with developers to investigate and resolve issues
Documentation
- Document test cases, procedures, and best practices
As you gain experience, you will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility within test automation, infrastructure, and strategy.
Your Profile
We are looking for a curious and proactive student who enjoys learning and working with complex technical systems.
We imagine that you:
- Are currently studying Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar
- Have basic experience with Python (pytest is a plus, but not required)
- Have an interest in embedded systems (microcontrollers, FPGA, or similar)
- Are structured in your work and comfortable documenting your findings
- Can work independently, but also collaborate with others and ask for help when needed
- Communicate clearly in English
Nice to have:
- Experience with C or embedded debugging tools (e.g. debuggers, oscilloscopes)
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g. EtherCAT)
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins
- Experience with Git or other version control systems
Why join DEIF?

Our strength lies in responsibility, teamwork, and the courage to innovate – that’s what drives us forward.
In addition to a role filled with exciting challenges, we offer you:
- Flexible work arrangements, including home office days and hours taiolored to your studies (10-15 hours per week)
- Mentorship from experienced engineers, working on power converter control systems
- The opportunity to work on real embedded systems in modern infrastructure
- In-house canteen and physiotherapist at our headquarters
- Fitness breaks, social events, and much more supporting your wellbeing.
