Your new role
As a Student Job – Optimization Engineer, you will work on addressing challenges within Manufacturing 3 (M3) using advanced modelling and optimisation techniques.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Applying multiscale modelling approaches to real operational challenges
- Supporting supply chain analysis, capacity planning, and production scheduling using mathematical programming (e.g. MILP)
- Contributing to digital twin modelling of (bio-)chemical processes
- Supporting data-driven decision-making aligned with Industry 4.0 trends
- Translating academic knowledge into practical applications in a manufacturing environment
This role offers a strong learning platform where you will gain hands-on experience in applying R&D-based concepts in a global organisation.
Your new department
You will join Novo Nordisk, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) Manufacturing – International Operations (IO) and be part of Manufacturing 3 (M3) in Kalundborg. M3 is responsible for purification processes across five facilities, four of which are physically connected.
You will be part of the M3 Bioprocess Improvement – Optimization & LEAN (M3 BIO & LEAN) team, a group of highly skilled colleagues and fellow students working with advanced process modelling, simulation, analysis, control, and optimisation. The team fosters a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive environment where knowledge sharing and continuous learning are key.
Your skills and qualifications
We are looking for a student who is currently enrolled in, or about to start, an MSc programme and has at least two semesters remaining.
To succeed in this role, you have:
- A relevant academic background in industrial engineering, business analytics, mathematical modelling, or chemical engineering (studying at a Danish university)
- A strong interest in optimisation, supply chain, operations research, and/or data analysis
- Familiarity with mathematical programming tools (e.g. Python, Pyomo, CPLEX or similar)
- A structured and analytical approach to solving complex problems
- The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from different backgrounds

Salary and Benefits: This position is hourly paid. For this position, the hourly base rate is 209,27 DKK, based on an assessment of relevant factors such as experience, educational background, demonstrated competencies, and the specific skills required for the position. In addition to the hourly base rate, Student Assistants are entitled to a pension scheme (currently 10% employer contribution and 5% employee contribution).
